This is a discontinuation open-source release: a permanent source for the files and documentation related to CHOMPI. To customize it, clone the repo into your own GitHub.

While we won’t be doing any more file updates, the CHOMPI Club will live on in the Chase Bliss Discord. Check out the CHOMPI Open Source channel to discuss the project, share what you make, and see what others have made on their own CHOMPI.

We won’t be offering comprehensive customer support for open source projects. Use at your own risk, and if you get stuck, you can always reset your CHOMPI back to factory settings with the bootloader and TAPE 2.0 card profile.

    Who this is for:

    Developers and code nerds who have familiarity with Daisy & Open Source projects. The GitHub has all of the code, hardware, and firmware files necessary to build your own CHOMPI / firmware if you know how to code in C++.

    Beginners, people who just want to play CHOMPI and have fun. You can still customize your CHOMPI experience using the CONFIG Tool and / or formatting your own samples

This repository holds the original source files for hardware and software – including blank enclosure panels – that make up the CHOMPI Mk1. All CHOMPI artwork has been excluded.

CHOMPI WAVE

Wavetable Synthesizer

As part of our Open Source release, we’ve included a beta release of a fun firmware exploration. WAVE is an 8-voice wavetable synthesizer that runs on your CHOMPI. Parts of WAVE will feel familiar if you’ve spent time with TAPE or TEMPO, but it’s also its own thing — intentionally stripped back, while still maintaining a bit of CHOMPI flavor throughout.

Open Source FAQs

    • To a degree yes, but we will not support those units, and they may not use the CHOMPI trademark branding/name.

    • All of the original source files for hardware and software are available to use, including blank enclosure panels. All CHOMPI artwork has been excluded.

  • Yes, we will not be making any more of this CHOMPI design. The spirit and ethos of CHOMPI will continue to influence future projects we work on. There are not any new CHOMPI models currently in the works for the near future.

  • No, it’s a beta firmware that we’re releasing as an open source starting point. We also wanted it to be available to other users outside of the open sourcing comfort zone. Which is why we are including the beta as a direct download on our website.

  • All of the files are located on the CHOMPI Open Source Github ➔

    • firmware/chompi-tape: TAPE 2.0, the sampler firmware every CHOMPI ships with.

    • firmware/chompi-tempo: TEMPO 1.0, a pattern generator firmware — the counterpart to TAPE.

    • firmware/chompi-wave: WAVE 1.0, a wavetable synth firmware that doubles as a starting point for anyone writing their own firmware.

    • firmware/chompi-bootloader-v6.4-beta: The bootloader. Never shipped on units, which run v6.2; created to improve stability. Abeta.

    • firmware/card-profiles: The factory microSD card contents for TAPE, TEMPO, and WAVE — firmware, samples and settings.

    • hardware/hardware-pcb: Schematic, BOM, EAGLE PCB files, and the full fabrication package.

    • hardware/hardware-enclosure: The six PCB panel enclosure files, as well as laser cutting files for DIY panels.

  • Copyright and Trademark elements:

    • The panel artwork. The graphic set and CHOMPI logos have been removed for copyright purposes. Anyone who builds their own hardware is asked to name it something else to avoid trademark infringement.

  • We are not providing customer support for Open Source projects, or CHOMPI’s developed / made by 3rd parties. But we still want the community to have a place to connect. So there is an Open Source channel for community discussion on our Chase Bliss Discord. Feel free to chat with other users, ask and answer questions, and share what you’re working on.
